Inner product computations using periodized daubechies wavelets

    Get PDF
International audienceInner products of wavelets and their derivatives are presently known as connection coefficients. The numerical calculation of inner products of periodized Daubechies wavelets and their derivatives is reviewed, with the aim at providing potential users of the publicly-available numerical scheme, details of its operation. The numerical scheme for the calculation of connection coefficients is evaluated in the context of approximating differential operators, information which is useful in the solution of partial differential equations using wavelet-Galerkin techniques. Specific details of the periodization of inner products in the solution differential equations are included in this presentation

Improved error estimates for the perturbed Galerkin method applied to a class of generalized eigenvalue problems

AbstractWe consider the generalized eigenvalue problem x-Kx = μBx in a complex Banach space E. Here, K and B are bounded linear operators, B is compact, and 1 is not in the spectrum of K. If {En: n = 1, 2,…} is a sequence of closed subspaces of E and Pn: E → En is a linear projection which maps E onto En, then we consider the sequence of approximate eigenvalue problems {xn-PnKxn = μPnBxn in En: n = 1, 2,…}. Assuming that ‖K-PnK‖ → 0 and ‖B-PnB‖ → 0 as n → ∞, we prove the convergence of sequences of eigenvalues and eigenelements of the approximate eigenvalue problem to eigenvalues and eigenelements of the original eigenvalue problem, and establish upper bounds for the errors. These error bounds are sharper than those given by Vainikko in Ref. 2 for the more general problem x = μTx in E, T linear and compact, and the sequence of approximate problems {xn = μTnxn in En: n=l, 2,…}, and do not involve the operator Sn=Tn-PnT/En

Safety and Toxicity of Catheter Gene Delivery to the Pulmonary Vasculature in a Patient with Metastatic Melanoma

Overview summary Transcatheter delivery of HLA-B7 DNA and cationic liposomes into a segment of a pulmonary artery was safely performed in 1 patient with tumor nodules in the lung. No immunologic or organ toxicities were observed. Percutaneous catheter gene delivery has been performed in humans. Further refinements of this approach may lead to useful treatments for a variety of human diseases.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/63196/1/hum.1994.5.9-1089.pd

Safety and Short-Term Toxicity of a Novel Cationic Lipid Formulation for Human Gene Therapy

Overview summary Although several viral vectors have been widely applied to the treatment of human disease, the development of nonviral vectors is still in their infancy. In this report, a novel cationic lipid, DMRIE/DOPE, has been incorporated into the DNA–liposome formulation that improves transfection efficiencies and allows up to 1,000-fold higher concentrations of DNA to be administered in vivo. In this paper, the safety and toxicity of this formulation is described in two species, mice and pigs, suggesting that it may prove useful for human gene therapy.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/63224/1/hum.1993.4.6-781.pd

A seguir, alguns tópicos importantes mereceram tratamento à parte: a fome, o alimento e o domínio religioso, as descobertas européias e a difusão mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia. O artigo se encerra com um rápido balanço crítico da historiografia brasileira sobre o tema

IMPORTANCE Overactivation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) may contribute to poor clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19. Objective To determine whether angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) initiation improves outcomes in patients hospitalized for COVID-19. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS In an ongoing, adaptive platform randomized clinical trial, 721 critically ill and 58 non–critically ill hospitalized adults were randomized to receive an RAS inhibitor or control between March 16, 2021, and February 25, 2022, at 69 sites in 7 countries (final follow-up on June 1, 2022). INTERVENTIONS Patients were randomized to receive open-label initiation of an ACE inhibitor (n = 257), ARB (n = 248), ARB in combination with DMX-200 (a chemokine receptor-2 inhibitor; n = 10), or no RAS inhibitor (control; n = 264) for up to 10 days. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The primary outcome was organ support–free days, a composite of hospital survival and days alive without cardiovascular or respiratory organ support through 21 days. The primary analysis was a bayesian cumulative logistic model. Odds ratios (ORs) greater than 1 represent improved outcomes. RESULTS On February 25, 2022, enrollment was discontinued due to safety concerns. Among 679 critically ill patients with available primary outcome data, the median age was 56 years and 239 participants (35.2%) were women. Median (IQR) organ support–free days among critically ill patients was 10 (–1 to 16) in the ACE inhibitor group (n = 231), 8 (–1 to 17) in the ARB group (n = 217), and 12 (0 to 17) in the control group (n = 231) (median adjusted odds ratios of 0.77 [95% bayesian credible interval, 0.58-1.06] for improvement for ACE inhibitor and 0.76 [95% credible interval, 0.56-1.05] for ARB compared with control). The posterior probabilities that ACE inhibitors and ARBs worsened organ support–free days compared with control were 94.9% and 95.4%, respectively. Hospital survival occurred in 166 of 231 critically ill participants (71.9%) in the ACE inhibitor group, 152 of 217 (70.0%) in the ARB group, and 182 of 231 (78.8%) in the control group (posterior probabilities that ACE inhibitor and ARB worsened hospital survival compared with control were 95.3% and 98.1%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE In this trial, among critically ill adults with COVID-19, initiation of an ACE inhibitor or ARB did not improve, and likely worsened, clinical outcomes.
